Food spending is an area where most of us should cut down. Whether it is going out to dine or eating ready meals at home to a coffee break before or during work to pre-packaged vegetables at the supermarket store. Virtually every family can make savings in order to manage their debts and food spending is one major area than can be cause for concern.
Cutting down on your spending of food shopping doesn’t mean living on a diet of beans and rice. But it will mean that you need to plan your meals and think a little bit harder before you fill up your supermarket trolley with expensive food items. Learn to cook The biggest money saver you can make is to cook nourishing food yourself. Concentrate on simple meals such as pasta dishes and soups. These meals can be prepared very quickly for a fraction of the cost of ready made meals. As you cook them yourself from raw ingredients you will find they are healthier and more nutritious too. You don’t have to be a top chef to put together a simple healthy meal. Search the internet for simple recipes. There should be no need to spend a fortune on cookery books.
Make your own packed lunch How many of us buy food at lunchtime from either the work’s canteen or nearby food sandwich shop? We all can make a sandwich – its not difficult and it takes around 6 minutes to do. Again you will make one for a fraction of the cost. You can out together a far healthier sandwich as you can avoid fattening sauces and relishes.
Avoid vending machines Bring your own drinks and snacks into work. Buy multi-packs from the supermarket store. You will simply be amazed how much cheaper it is to buy and multi-pack of say, your favorite chocolate bar or can of fizzy drink. Always think: buy in bulk.
Avoid bottled water Bottled water really is an unnecessary luxury. Tap water is perfectly adequate and proven to be just as healthy. When you are in debt, buying bottled water will not help you save money. Keep the money in your back pocket – and see how it mounts up over the days and weeks.
Coffee shops Add up your weekly or monthly bill for your coffee shop trip. You will be simply shocked on how much you are spending. The total bill could add up to as much as $1500 a year, which is simply shocking. Go less often – or cut it out altogether.
When trying to get out of debt there are many ways to cut down on your spending. For most people, spending on food needs managing and by being careful, you will get out of debt quicker than you would have first thought.
